The band played on a transparent platform constructed 50 feet in the air on the corner of Hollywood and Highland. The stage itself was constructed beforehand using cranes to lift the heavy materials. The performance featured pyrotechnics and laser lights for a spectacular display of colors and entertainment. The band filmed 4 music videos, featuring the songs “Rusty Nail”, “Endless Rain”, “I.V.”, and “Jade”.

Fans lined the sidewalk outside the Hollywood and Highland Center, holding various handmade signs. Many fans dressed up for the event, sporting outfits inspired by the band members and Japanese rock and visual kei culture. In addition, fans gathered on nearby rooftops to get a good view of the band’s performance. Those who made it up to the rooftops caught the best view, as the fans on the sidewalk had trouble seeing the band above them. An LCD monitor showed the fans a closer look at the band as they performed overhead. However, there were many breaks in between the songs, which were each performed multiple times. The focus of the event was certainly on filming the videos.

Press was told not to photograph the band members, although many fans snapped some shots from the rooftops. The photos included were provided by the band’s publicist.

X Japan was originally founded in 1982. X Japan disbanded in 1997, and famous guitarist Hideto “Hide” Matsumoto died in 1998. The band reunited in 2007, featuring members Toshimitsu “Toshi” Deyama, Yoshiki Hayashi, Tomoaki “Pata” Ishizuka, and Hiroshi “Heath” Morie. Known for their amazing hairstyles and visual kei clothing, the band has sold over 20 million records worldwide.

Recent reports have exposed an interesting scandal involving robot costumes. A person by the name of Jeff Leininger in Jacksonville, FL runs the website Robot Costumes USA — http://www.robot-costumes.com, where he claims to be the world leader in design and manufacture of robot costumes. However, suspicion has arisen.

Jeff recently added a “Transformer-like” costume to his inventory. However, this costume is the very same one made by Lionel Lum and worn to numerous conventions across the US. Jeff simply took an image of Lionel from Wonder Con and photoshopped it to suit his own purposes. http://www.robot-costumes.com/2009Transformers.html

Attempts were made to contact Jeff Leininger, but he is unresponsive to our email requests.

This action is simply outrageous. The notion that one can steal someone else’s work, call it their own, and then also attempt to sell it is just despicable. We hope that this matter can soon be resolved and the offending parties brought to justice.

The original image of Lionel can be seen at http://gamegirl.blogfaction.com

Several editors from Not Interested attended San Diego Comic Con this year. Everyone had fun, and we can all agree it was pretty intense. It was actually my first time attending this convention, having previously lived on a different coast. Here are some highlights from the con:

–There were many exciting panels featuring celebrities from the industry. There was something for everyone! Chris and I attended the Chuck panel, which I will undoubtedly be writing more about in a separate article.

–The crowds were very large. I had been warned, but I was still quite impressed with the number of attendees. Comic Con certainly is popular!

–One of my favorite things, cosplay, was well represented around the convention.

–The exhibit hall was very impressive. Exhibitors really brought their best products and displays.

–Outside the convention center were other Comic Con related decorations. There was a Heroes carnival, and a local cafe had actually been redecorated to look like Cafe Diem from Eureka, complete with accurate signs and cardboard cutouts of the characters.

–Various editors took photos at the convention, which can be viewed in this gallery: Comic Con 2009

Well, all of the Not Interested staff is back safely from Comic-Con 2009. We will have all of the photos up and a full report up online in the next few days. We will also have a Comic-Con survival guide written by our very own Brenna Stones up in the next few weeks.

Comic-Con 2009 was a blast, but I must say that the highlight of the con for Daisy and me was the “Chuck” panel. This hilarious panel opened with a clip reel that culminated when Vik Sahay (Lester Patel) and Scott Krinsky (Jeffrey “Jeff” Barnes) stepped on stage and performed Queen’s “Fat Bottom Girls” as Jeffster, including Jeff with his keytar.

Check back in a few days for our full report, including photo galleries from the con!
